I was laughing out loud in the doctor's waiting room reading about the poor children who were traumitized when your mother's lip implant flew across the room. Like you , I learned many of my life lessons while shopping with my mother at stores like LaSalle's in Toledo , Oh. Of course, that was in the late 50s/early 60s. Although I was so upset when the book ended, I thought how appropriate to end this part with a scene replayed from MAME ( my favorite show) . Your mother was cut from the same mold. So I can't wait for you to "open a new window" with a sequel. I just love it that the beautiful boy got the beautiful man in the end - so what happened next?

What a wonderful book! You so much remind me of a childhood friend who also has a humorous way to describe life. Keep up the wonderful work - hope to see more books soon!

Got your book from InsightOut and was transported back to my own childhood in East Oklahoma. I'm a child of the fifties thought women like your mother would have been extinct by the time you were born. The un-naturally blonde Southern woman just keeps on goin' on I guess. If you and/or Michael are ever in Cincinnati Duane and I would love to meet you and feed you!

Robert: I just read a beautiful book about a beautiful boy, in some ways not unlike the East Texas boy I once was. Thank you for including me as a Darling. I do not suffer from the gratitude, I smile with pleasure. It makes me happy to know that I may have inspired you in some small way. I am very proud of your success, and I hope you will write many more books. Please visit me in Mexico. Edward Swift......edward.swift@hotmail.com

I just found your book a few days ago and finished it so fast because I couldn't put it down. The only part I hated was that it ended! What a great book and I can't wait until you do another! :)

I meet you in Little Rock, AR at the Literary festival where I purchased your book. I have loved the book so much and I have told all of the girls (guys) about it. Come back to AR when you can.

I met you at our Pulpwood Queen Meeting in Jefferson Tx. Couldn't get you two out of my mind. Couldn't put the book down. One of the best reads I've found lately. Can't wait for your next book. I loved your funny description of how life gave you lemons & you wound uo with lemonade.

I just finished your book and I'm so sorry it's over, I'm already missing you and your family. A wonderful funny journey with a lovely cast of characters. You had me laughing my head off and even tearing up a little now and then, but mostly laughing. Please write another one sooooooon!! Marina

Robert - Oh, no!! I said it out loud when I got to the end of the book. Not because of the ending, but because it ended. I loved every page, every nook and cranny of your story. The book was a "recommended" read from Insight Out Book Club. What a treasure. I will be sure to share it with friends and encourage everyone to buy a copy. I am looking forward to more from you. Was happy to stay up the entire night reading your book because I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. With books I enjoy, I often fold an upper corner page back in order to 'mark' lines I esp liked & want to review & recall later. A typical book might have 2 pgs marked.. Yours had 14! One of the first pages being "Going to work just ruins the whole day" My sentiments exactly!! I was hooked on your Mother & you from then on..

Yep, you are my "Bob".....it has been too many years to count. I taught you in the 5th grade, Science to be exact. How wonderful to hear you are doing so well, sucessful and accomplished, no surprise there--I would have expected no less. I can't wait to read your book and having known your Mother, this should be a "wild ride". I still remember her in her baby blue Halston ultra-suede pant suits! Oh, and kudos to you for finding that good "Louisiana boy", my home state too. Congratulations and sending much love, Julie Bentley

I took your book to Rosemary Beach, Florida while spending Spring Break with my husband, children and three other families. My husband kept picking it up to read whenever I left our beach umbrella for a stroll. I think he was curious about my laughing while reading. I loved your chapter about contacting your Father and welled up at the part when your Dad said he's "missed your sweet little voice". Your description was so tender and touching; I just wanted so much to know that things between you did get better. I hope you do a book signing in Indiana, I'll be there! I love your sassy wit and so enjoyed your humor describing your life and tribulations.

I'm a middle school English teacher from Pennsylvania. This is a wonderful memoir.I stumbled upon in it a little bookstore off the beaten path. I plan to share excerpts with my students and pass this book along to colleagues who need an uplifting read. Thank you for sharing your story. You've found your niche. A place that all middle schoolers yearn to find.
